The lawyer Brigitte Zypries was born in 1953. She worked in the Wiesbaden State Chancellery and at the Federal Constitutional Court before moving to the Lower Saxony State Chancellery in 1991. From 1997 to 2002 Brigitte Zypries was a civil servant State Secretary and from 2002 to 2009 Federal Minister of Justice. From 2005 to 2017, she represented the constituency of Darmstadt as a directly elected member of the Bundestag (SPD). From January 2017 to March 2018, Zypries was Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy, and from December 2013 to January 2017 she was Parliamentary State Secretary in this ministry, responsible for information technology (IT) and foreign trade. She was the Federal Government Coordinator for Aerospace from January 2014 to March 2018.
Since April 2018, Brigitte Zypries has taken on various tasks and honorary posts. She is particularly committed to start-ups, ombudswoman for several organisations and on the supervisory boards of Bombardier and Betterplace.
